IMPACT CASE STUDY

Traditional distribution models may be adequate for delivering cutting edge innovations to the middle class in emerging markets but often cannot meet the needs of the working poor. Supply chain innovations are needed to deliver product access, create jobs, and build local capacity to break the cycle of poverty and lack of access.

Supply Chain Innovation

We collaborated with the Georgia Institute of Technology to test over 50 product form factors to select the best option to provide STAYTEC® at the most affordable price and best experience. We followed that with a study to discover willingness to pay and key purchasing drivers among 100 security guards over 30 days. Finally we conducted pilots of micro-packaging and distribution centers to test new supply chain approaches.

Outcome

Discovered market threshold for $3 per day at $0.15 per use and an ability to deliver that price through a new supply chain approach. Malaria rates dropping from 73% to zero. Interest from USAID, African Development Bank through an NGO partner to support small holder farmers.
